Tapeworm in cats, kittens, dogs and puppies

How are Taenia tapeworm caught?

Taenia eggs are shed into the environment in faeces, by infected animals. They are then swallowed by sheep, cattle and rabbits as they graze.

Dogs can become infected if they are allowed to feed on the carcasses of sheep, cattle or rabbits.

Cats may be infected if allowed to eat rodents.
