Hookworm in cats, kittens, dogs and puppies

How are hookworm caught?

Eggs are shed into the environment by infected animals, where they develop into larvae. Cats, dogs and (very occasionally) man can be infected if these larvae are allowed to burrow into the skin (usually through the feet), or if accidentally swallowed. The cycle then continues all over again.
