The risk to human health in the UK is very low, however there are rare recorded incidences of infection causing skin disease and or intestinal problems.
A light infection in a pet, as is most likely in the UK, will likely be symptomless. A heavy infection, as is more common on the continent, can cause anaemia in cats or dogs.
